After all, if you have it, why wouldn't you eat it? But, after you eat it, it's gone! [Yeah, yeah, this is a ridiculous aside I know, but it has always nagged at me.]Vicki Canahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15409645025105765990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5389485538945190196.post-17304810628760497352008-09-19T12:09:00.000-04:002008-09-19T12:09:00.000-04:00"Sure, he came out against the Iraq War in 2002, b..."Sure, he came out against the Iraq War in 2002, but he was not even in the Senate then."

So what? That only shows how far ahead he was of all the senators who bought Bush's swill and wouldn't stand up to him.

He showed judgment and character. These things matter.

"Senator Obama, like me, was doing nothing more than sideline quarterbacking."

You're trying to have your cake and eat it too. He deserves credit for not only going against the war, but saying *exactly* what he thought would happen, and being accurate almost to a "T".

"He votes with the left nearly all the time."

He's also taken unpopular stances out of principle when he felt it warranted. For example, opposing the gas tax holiday during the primary, which was a risky move.

"Obama has been rated the most liberal member of the senate."

Myth.

"I have no doubt that, if elected preseident, he will revert to his maverick ways."

I have plenty of such doubts. You think he won't owe a debt to the fringe right-wingers if he gets into power?

There's a reason why true conservatives are coming out in droves to oppose McCain.

"Palin is the perfect compliment."

Sarah Palin is a clueless pathological liar, the mere selection of which proves McCain is unfit for office.Charles M. I have seen ...Barack Obama is a magnificent orator. I have seen people mesmerized by his speeches. And he's clearly a gifted writer.

BUT WHAT HAS HE DONE TO MAKE YOU BELIEVE THAT HE IS AN AGENT FOR CHANGE?

While a member of the Illinois State Senate, he played typical Chicago politics. And since his election to the Senate, he has done little more than run for President. In my opinion, he's all talk and no action.

Sure, he came out against the Iraq War in 2002, but he was not even in the Senate then. I was also vehemently opposed to the Iraq War, and believed it to be a huge mistake, but I would never use my opposition to claim that I "made the right call." Senator Obama, like me, was doing nothing more than sideline quarterbacking.

Like you, I am also pissed off. Not at democrats or republicans, but at politicians in general. Why is is that most Americans can have different opinions on different issues, regardless of their political affiliation? I can be a fiscal conservative, and pro-life, yet favor stricter gun control and greater access to health care.

But most politicians, for whatever reason, toe the party line. Obama likes to say that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. But look at Obama. He votes with the left nearly all the time. Obama has been rated the most liberal member of the senate. Take a look at the Party Unity ratings on cq.com. Obama's party unity score is 96 while McCain's party unity score is 81.

Most people want to define bipartisanship as being able to "reach across the aisle." Wrong. Anyone can reach across the aisle. What I want in my president, is someone who is willing to take a stand against his party, i.e. a maverick.

Has McCain come back to his party during this campaign. Sure. But he had to, in order to shore up his base. I have no doubt that, if elected preseident, he will revert to his maverick ways. Palin is the perfect compliment.

Obama has never demonstrated a desire to take on his own party. He will simply move this country from "too far right" to "too far left"BaseballCoachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17322663995571519023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5389485538945190196.post-27749033656770291132008-09-18T19:16:00.000-04:002008-09-18T19:16:00.000-04:00Very well said.
