I mostly disappeared for a few days because I went to visit a friend. Hadn't realized I would be missed -- thanks for the nice comments! :)
Boy, this friend of mine has had a spate of bad luck recently. A few years ago he got a rare form of cancer which he was just getting over this summer and getting back into shape when he had a freak bike accident. He rides an incumbent, and it tipped over, trapped his foot and crushed his leg. He had to have several surgeries and still can't put any weight at all on it. I went to visit him for a couple of days to cheer him up.
