Seems It's Not McCain/Coward, It's Coward/Coward

Not only is the press being kept away from Her Royal Highness, Sarah Palin, Precious Flower Who Must Be Revered At All Times, but John McCain is running scared as well:

Today marks the four-week anniversary since McCain held his last press conference (8/13 in Birmingham, MI) and three weeks since his last public town hall meeting (8/20 in Las Cruces, NM).

McCain’s new campaign strategy: staged rallies with thousands of supporters. Since announcing Sarah Palin as his VP choice on August 29, McCain’s has appeared at 11 rallies with his new running mate where both members of the ticket delivered a 10-15 minute stump speech.

This is what American politics has come down to: a candidate whose campaign has devolved to ads filled with lies and smears, and staged rallies filled with adoring sheeple. Baaaah. This isn't an election, it's a lesson in how to run a propaganda snowjob in a third world country.

This may just be the method of running a presidential campaign limited to $84.1 mil of public money. Release web ads smearing the other guy so they get broadcast for free, and appear in large venues with adoring crowds -- cheap. And of course, no press conferences or interviews allows you to cut back on your newspaper subscriptions and advisers who tell you what to think and, more importantly, what to not say. So it's really a cost-savings measure -- and you know how these reformist/mavericks are about cutting costs....
