CHANGE: "Come Help A Nigger Get Elected"

Republicans are not only losing this election, they are ensuring that they will have to claw their way back to even be competitive in the future. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch, too.

I hate people sometimes. I'm like a Cubs fan, I really want Obama to win, but I just don't see it happening.

They've been calling us Niggers and Coons, and every other derogatory term for years. Senator Obama is no exception. What they fail to realize is that, we aren't allowing those sentiments to stop us anymore. So in November when they have to start calling Obama 'Mr. President' maybe then those backwards hicks, will understand that being white doesn't mean being superior. Maybe then they can join the rest of the country black, white and everyone else in the 21st century. Or maybe I'm just to optimistic for my own good. Either way Obama will win.

Again I have brought to mind the story in the Bible of the Israelites being led out of Egypt. The adult generation kept rebelling and wanting to go back, so God decides they will wander in the desert 40 years until the adults are consumed, and only their children get to enter the promised land.

The question we answer in 4 weeks is whether enough of our old generation has died off yet.

Odd I've been thinking about that same story for months now. When I talk to my father and older relatives people who lived through that time I see that compared to me their racial views are much more hardened towards whites because of their experiences. That can only be destroyed through death unfortunately.

Crisis and hard times have always caused us to choose strong leaders, to fight the situation, even if it meant fighting ourselves. What I want to know is if that trait is inherently apart of our American Democracy or if those incidents were flukes. I pray it is the former.

Not sure what trait you mean, but xenophobia has always been a part of the human condition.

Remember that many of those who look down on blacks today were themselves considered "substandard" 100 years ago.

'Trait' was an inaccurate word choice. It's more like an uncanny ability of ours to consistently choose, incredibly strong leaders in times of national crisis. Many other countries have allowed the worst of themselves to lead their nations during similar times.(Nazi Germany, Stalin Russia, etc). We're a rather young country though so it's too early to see if that is an inherent trait of democracy, American style democracy or a historical fluke.

Yes xenophobia is alive and well. Unfortunately the Black American legacy is one that has to deal with more than just xenophobia. No vestiges of cultural/identity erasing slavery, or entrenched Jim Crow for the Irish, Italians, Polish, or other groups, who showed up 100 years ago. This is sad to say but I'd rather just take the xenophobia. For our country to elect a black man after all of the set backs which I stated above, would send a strong signal to the world that we are who we say we are. A land where all men are created equal, even at the highest levels of society.
