They say that the first rule of the VP is "do no harm". This reflects the fact that few people will vote for a candidate because of his or her VP, but many might vote against a candidate because of one. It was for this reason that some of us said earlier that even if Palin did okay it wouldn't matter a great deal.
Well, she did "okay". And it won't matter a great deal.
No major gaffes, but it's also quite obvious that she is totally clueless, especially on foreign policy. She proved again tonight that she has charisma and she can regurgitate talking points, but that she has no depth of understanding of important issues at all.
IMO the story tonight isn't Palin -- it's Biden. He got no attention coming in, and IMO he came across as prepared, intelligent, experienced and very human.

Question for you, Charles:
Given the fact that she could absorb enough to regurgitate for this debate and show she has a working memory , don't you think she might be able to learn enough to carry her through if Americans are insane enough to choose her team? After all, though her responses didn't really show insight, she didn't seem quite as dense as she did with Couric. In fact, she would make quite a good sponge (and an opinionated and self-righteous one too) if chosen.
Honestly, I can't wait to see the response of the nation to the role she played. To me, she seemed to have arrived with her lines, and with a determination to 'say her piece' regardless of what she was asked. Can you picture her in a meeting of world leaders, especially if unexpected situations arise?
She's Bush with lipstick. That's the closest comparison.
Sure, she'd have advisors, and yes, she would eventually learn more and possibly even become competent. But she also would have to face much tougher situations than these interviews and debates.
I thought superficially she did ok. Better than I had expected. She would make a good PTA president or perhaps even mayor. But I dont want her standing in line behind an old guy with a history of melanoma.
Maybe now her handlers will allow her to hold a real press conference, LOL.

It does what it's told, that's all I have to say about her tonight. She was nothing but a robot.
You can get a great idea of how well Sarah Palin did simply by reading Charles' blog of the debate.
Charles has simply caught a whole new strain of Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS), and from the looks of most of the left wing blogs, it is an epidemic.
Reading through Charles' 10 part blog, let's look at some of the words he used in describing Pain's performance (many of them on more than one occasion):
cough, groan, stupid lie, smirking, annoying, plastic, ramble, good grief, cute, Ew, stumbles, spouting, clueless, phoney, blah, cluebot, bad, word salad, nauseating, hurl, WTF, bland, snore, ...,
Here's the symptoms of PDS folks: If Palin does well and is seen as threatening, Obama supporters come out of the woodwork to attack her.
Charles could have blogged with a lot more decency. He could have still been critical of Palin's arguments. He could have still reached his conclusion that Biden won the debate.
Instead, he went after Palin with malice and bitterness. He concocted his own toxic "word salad," one that even Chef Emeril Lagasse would say had far too many ingredients.
Using his own words as evidence, we can conclude that Charles has a severe case of PDS.
Even if you did not see the debate, Charles' writings should convice you that Sarah Palin did well.

I enjoyed the irony of baseballcoach simultaneously attacking me while whining about me attacking Palin.
I've explained this before but I'll try again since I know Republidroids are a bit dense. This is not a neutral news site -- it's a blog largely based on opinion. I gave my opinions of what I heard.
I gave Palin credit in several places where I thought she did well. But overall, I found her phony, plasticky, ignorant and shallow.
It's not a "syndrome" to point out that this woman is utterly unqualified and unprepared to be vice-president or president. Not because of her lack of experience, but because she is out of her depth, incapable of thinking for herself and utterly devoid of any understanding of important issues.
The real "syndrome" is that which causes otherwise intelligent-seeming people to support this woman for high office because of ridiculous notions such as her "folksy charm" or whatnot, ignoring the utter disaster she would represent if elected.

This is also not a democracy. As your buddy Bush joked, it's a dictatorship, and I'm the dictator.
The deal is simple: if you want to criticize me, fine. Make reasonable points and I won't have any problem with it. If you want to spew insults at me, then I do have a problem with that.
And yes, I DO get to insult Sarah Palin if I want to. She's a public figure. If she shows up here and objects, I'll change my policy on that.

I never said you were deranged. I used the term PDS in the same way that Charles Krauthammer used the term BDS, a term he coined in a 2003 column, to describe those that had a hatred of George Bush. Yes the term contains the word "deranged", but Krauthammer's column was written tongue-in-cheek, as were my posts.
I think you should lighten up a bit; however, I will refrain from ever using the term PDS again.
Also, I have no friends on FR. As I mentioned before, I do not frequent conservative sites, and have never even been to FR.

It's a very derogatory term that attempts to denigrate people who hate someone for VALID REASONS.
As for "lightening up" -- I take this stuff seriously. It matters. I'm not interested in having people tell me to "lighten up", especially while also accusing me of suffering from a "derangement syndrome".
"Deranged" is what McCain's campaign has become and I won't take anything lightly until he and his goons have been defeated.
